The Last Drop, The Trembling Cup, Brew Brothers, Starbucks… These are all real examples of coffee shop names. If you are starting a coffee shop, then you probably realize that you’ve got lots of options when it comes to the name. Coffee shop names range from being funny to absurd to obvious.
Before you start coming up with coffee shop names based on puns or coffee-related words, make sure that you are taking these factors into consideration.
1. Your Audience
Even if you think you’ve come up with the best coffee shop names, take a moment to think about your audience. If you have a fun coffee shop name such as Jumpin’ Jitters (a real coffee shop name), it might not be appropriate if your target audience is people on their way to work who obviously won’t want to be jittery during their long workday!
If you know who your target audience is for your coffee shop, then you will be able to understand how your coffee shop names will be perceived by them.
2. What Else Are You Advertising?
Obviously, a coffee shop has coffee. But what else do you want to advertise other than coffee? This can be anything from a relaxed atmosphere, a cool hook-up spot, a quiet study place, or a place to grab a quick pick-me-up on the way to work. Coffee shop names should reflect this.
If your coffee shop has a certain niche, such as organic coffee, or also offers baked goods, you will also want to consider this when choosing coffee shop names.
3. Memorable
Coffee shop names should be easy to remember and they also need to be unique. Many people forget that coffee shop names do NOT have to be coffee related. Again, think of your audience when choosing a name. If your coffee shop is going to be near an art school, you could call it Dali’s Corner and make Salvador Dali its theme.
Keep in mind that coffee shop names also don’t have to be witty puns either. One of my favorite coffee shops is simply called 40th Street Café. You can bet no one ever forgets where it is located!
4. Logo
The best advertising for a coffee shop is usually its location when people pass by and see its logo. That is why it is important to consider coffee shop names simultaneously with the logo. Try to find names that are short enough to fit on business cards or be included in your logo easily.
5. Internet Site
You might want to make an internet site for your coffee shop. Ideally, your website name should be the same as your coffee shop name. This can be a difficult task, but you may want to consider available website names when thinking of coffee shop names.
